Sheriff Peoples was elected Sheriff of Custer County in November of 2008 and was appointed Sheriff on December 1st, 2008 to fullfill the unexpired term of the previous elected Sheriff.
Sheriff Peoples grew up on a farm near Woodward, Oklahoma and graduated Woodward High School in 1964. He has lived in Custer County since 1973. He attended Northwestern Oklahoma State University, majoring in Police Science.
Sheriff Peoples has dedicated his professional career to law enforcement. He is a retired Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper, serving 33 years with that organization. He is also a veteran of the United States Air Force. As an Oklahoma Highway Patrolman, he was assigned to Custer County and supervised the daily operations of Troop H, consisting of 25 to 30 state troopers working in a 5-county area.
